Feeding management points for chicks

During the brooding period, newly hatched pheasants primarily rely on the unabsorbed yolk sac for nutrition before they start eating solid food. It is important to note that the yolk is usually fully absorbed within 24 hours after hatching. For optimal development, it's recommended to provide high-quality feed that contains a balanced mix of vitamins and minerals. This includes ingredients like corn, fish meal, bran, soybean meal, and bone meal, which should be used within a week of purchase to maintain freshness and nutritional value. When feeding, always offer small amounts at a time to avoid waste and ensure the chicks can consume everything properly. In the early stages, you can spread the feed on clean plastic sheets or paper to help the young pheasants locate and eat it more easily. Providing continuous light for the first 1-3 days helps them find food and water more effectively. Observation is key during this time. Always check if all the chicks are actively eating. If any seem inactive or not interested in food, give them extra attention and care immediately, as this could signal health issues. If problems persist, consult a veterinarian for further guidance. Temperature control is crucial for successful brooding. The right temperature ensures the chicks remain healthy, active, and have strong immunity. Before placing the chicks in the brooding area, the room temperature should be maintained between 33°C and 37°C. After introducing the chicks, monitor their behavior closely. Healthy pheasants will be evenly distributed, show good energy levels, eat regularly, and move around actively. If the temperature is too high, the chicks may pant, spread their wings, and become less active. If it's too low, they will huddle together, fluff up their feathers, and may even pile on top of each other. In such cases, adjust the temperature accordingly—reduce it by about 2°C per week until reaching the normal ambient temperature at the end of the brooding period. Chuanshan pheasants are known for being energetic and lively. However, it’s important to manage their social interactions carefully. Avoid letting them become too dependent on each other, especially before 15 days of age. Males can be introduced for breeding purposes, but once they are no longer needed, they should be separated to prevent unnecessary stress or aggression.
