Rose cultivation management
Roses are known for their vibrant beauty and resilience. They thrive in sunny conditions and are quite cold- and drought-tolerant, making them ideal for growing in temperatures ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. These plants have strong adaptability, but they prefer well-drained, fertile soil that is neutral or slightly acidic. A light loam soil works best for optimal growth and flowering.
Before planting, it's recommended to enrich the soil with organic fertilizer as a base. In the following year, apply four rounds of additional fertilizer: one after germination (between 2-3 months), one before blooming, another right after flowering to support growth, and a final Winter fertilizer before the leaves fall. The winter application can be slightly heavier to help raise the ground temperature, ensuring the plant survives the cold season safely.
For potted roses, it's advised to use diluted liquid fertilizer every 10 days. While roses are drought-tolerant, they still require some care. Watering is generally not necessary unless during dry seasons or early Spring. Potted roses should be watered every 2-3 days, and daily watering may be needed during hot Summer months to keep the roots healthy.
Beyond their ornamental value, roses are also economically significant. Their flowers are used in making candied fruits, extracts, and essential oils, which are highly valued in the international market. It's important to harvest the flowers promptly when they bloom. If left unharvested, they will only flower once a year. The more frequently you pick the flowers, the more times they will bloom. Harvesting is best done early in the morning when the buds just start to open. Flowers that are slightly yellow can still be harvested, but if the center turns red, the quality is lower.
Roses typically bloom on new growth, so regular pruning helps maintain vigorous growth, enhances flowering, and improves the plant's appearance. Pruning can be done either before or during the flowering period to encourage more blooms and extend the flowering season.
