Soil Testing Formula Helps Agriculture in Hailin, Heilongjiang Province
In 2008, Hailin City in Heilongjiang Province took significant steps to improve agricultural productivity through soil testing and scientific fertilization. Over the past two years, Hailin has developed a four-tier soil testing and fertilization service system, which involves collaboration between provincial, municipal, township, and village-level authorities. This structured approach ensures that farmers receive expert guidance throughout the entire process of soil testing, fertilizer formulation, and application. As a result, the city has seen remarkable improvements in both crop yield and cost efficiency.
This year alone, the implementation of this system led to a cost-saving of 24 million yuan in agricultural production. Farmers were able to reduce unnecessary fertilizer use while maintaining or even improving crop quality. By following the recommendations provided through the soil testing program, they achieved better returns on their investments.
The four-tier system includes trained professionals at each level who work together to provide accurate soil analysis and tailored fertilizer formulas. This year, more than 8,000 formula cards were issued to local farmers, guiding them in the proper use of fertilizers. A total of 350 tons of customized fertilizer was produced, covering an area of 800,000 mu. On average, farmers saw an increase in income of 30 yuan per mu due to improved soil management and optimized fertilization techniques.
Through this initiative, Hailin has not only boosted agricultural output but also empowered farmers with the knowledge to make informed decisions.
