Look at fish farming methods and technical points
Observing the color and measuring the transparency of pool water are simple yet effective ways to assess water quality in fish farming, which plays a crucial role in scientific aquaculture. The color of the water is mainly influenced by the types and quantities of plankton and bacteria present. For example, when the water appears pale or milky white, it indicates a high concentration of plankton, often resulting from the application of organic fertilizers. This condition is ideal for fry, as it provides sufficient nutrients for their early development.
Green water usually means there are more floating plants, making it suitable for carp growth. If the surface of the water looks yellowish-white, it may signal low oxygen levels. In such cases, actions like using an aerator or applying lime water can help improve water quality. Brown water suggests a high organic load, which is not favorable for fish. To avoid poor conditions, fresh water should be added regularly to prevent the water from aging.
Yellow-green water is considered the most suitable for general fish farming. For filter-feeding species like mussels and oysters, the water can be deeper, with a transparency of around 25 cm. However, for predatory fish that feed on other fish, slightly clearer water with a lighter color is preferred.
The ideal level of water transparency depends on several factors, including the pond's surroundings, farming methods, type of aquaculture, breeding techniques, and seasonal and geographical differences. Generally, pond water transparency should be maintained between 25 and 30 cm. In early spring, when temperatures are lower, keeping the transparency at about 30 cm helps increase light penetration and raise water temperature more quickly. From May to September, as temperatures rise, the water depth should gradually increase, and transparency should be kept around 25 cm to support the growth of plankton and maintain a balanced ecosystem.
