There’s something magical about the moment when you first hold that tiny, fragile bundle of life in your arms—six pounds of pure, unadulterated beauty. At that moment, numbers like six, seven, and eight feel impossibly far away. Time slows down to a crawl, and every single breath feels like a gift, both theirs and ours. But as the years fly by in a blur of chaos and laughter, we’re left chasing after those fleeting moments, hoping to hold onto the beauty of their childhood. And then there are days like the one my daughter turned eight. EIGHT! I found myself crying again—not out of sadness but sheer awe at how quickly she’s growing into this incredible person. A mix of gentleness and strength, she’s already carving her own path in this world. Parenting isn’t something that comes with a manual, and I get why. Each kid is so uniquely different that it’s almost overwhelming. My three kids alone keep me on my toes. On the rare occasion when everything clicks into place, my husband and I exchange knowing glances and think, “Yeah, we could do this again!†But then there are the other days—those chaotic ones where all three are testing their boundaries—and we wonder how we ever thought we had it figured out. Because honestly, we don’t. We stumble forward, learning alongside them, fueled by love and a whole lot of trial and error. Eight years of pure, unbridled joy with this incredible girl. So when my girl expressed her wish for a luau on the beach for her special day, we went all in. She knew exactly what she wanted—a tropical paradise right here in our backyard. Even though the skies were threatening with clouds and rain for most of the afternoon, we stuck it out. And boy, were we glad we did. As the clouds cleared, the sky transformed into a breathtaking watercolor masterpiece, a perfect metaphor for the unpredictability of life. It reminded me that sometimes, the best moments come after the storm. While the kids played and splashed in the waves, we adults sat back, laughing and chatting. There’s something magical about watching your child light up with joy, surrounded by friends and family. We celebrated, we sang, and I soaked it all in—the sound of the waves, the salty breeze, the laughter echoing across the beach.
