Save the rabbit hair to "four defenses"
Rabbit hair possesses unique physical and chemical properties that make it prone to tangling, moisture absorption, insect damage, and brittleness when exposed to sunlight. These characteristics directly impact the quality and longevity of the hair. Therefore, proper preservation is essential, and the key lies in implementing a comprehensive "four-defense" strategy: protection against pressure, moisture, sunlight, and pests.
1. **Pressure Protection**
Rabbit hair tends to tangle easily when subjected to moisture, warmth, and pressure. To prevent this, cut rabbit hair should be stored in specially designed wooden cabinets or sturdy cardboard boxes. Avoid placing heavy objects on top of the containers, as excessive pressure can cause matting and loss of softness. To further protect the hair’s smooth texture, lining the interior of the box with glossy paper can help reduce friction and maintain quality.
2. **Moisture Protection**
Due to its high hygroscopic nature, rabbit hair is highly sensitive to humidity. During rainy seasons or in damp environments, it is crucial to keep the hair dry. If the hair absorbs moisture, it becomes a favorable environment for microorganisms, leading to discoloration and degradation. Therefore, rabbit hair should not be stored on the floor or against walls. Instead, place it on elevated shelves and consider sprinkling lime in corners or along the floor to absorb excess moisture and maintain a dry storage environment.
3. **Sunlight Protection**
Prolonged exposure to sunlight or high temperatures can damage the keratin proteins in rabbit hair, causing discoloration and making the fibers brittle. This reduces the hair's textile performance and overall quality. As such, direct sun exposure should be avoided at all times. If the hair becomes damp or mildewed, it can be briefly dried under the sun for 1–2 hours, followed by thorough drying in a cool, well-ventilated area before being repackaged.
4. **Insect Protection**
As a natural fiber made primarily of keratin, rabbit hair is vulnerable to insect infestation. To prevent moth damage, a small amount of mothballs can be placed inside the storage cabinet. However, these should always be wrapped in gauze bags to avoid direct contact with the hair. Place one bag in each corner and the center of the box. It is important to avoid using strong insect repellents that may chemically affect the hair. Regular inspections are recommended, preferably on sunny days, to ensure the hair remains in good condition.
By following these four key protective measures, the quality and durability of rabbit hair can be significantly preserved. This approach is especially important for those involved in the processing, storage, or sale of rabbit hair products.
