Pearl shell insertion technology

Pearl farming is a complex and highly specialized process, with the insertion of the nucleus being one of its most critical stages. This technique involves carefully placing a nucleus inside the mantle tissue of a mother-of-pearl shell, which then triggers the formation of a pearl sac. Over time, the shell secretes nacre around the nucleus, gradually forming a pearl. The underlying principle of this method is inspired by the natural formation of pearls, where foreign particles or irritants cause the mantle to react, leading to the development of a pearl sac and the deposition of nacre. Although the basic concept is straightforward, the actual execution is extremely challenging. The success of the procedure depends on various factors, including the type of mollusk used, the condition of the shell, and the specific techniques applied. No single method works universally; different species respond differently, making it impractical to apply a one-size-fits-all approach. For example, in Japan, it took over a decade of research and refinement after early failures to develop an effective method for inserting nuclei into large oyster shells. Similarly, Chinese researchers faced numerous setbacks before achieving success in cultivating large pearls. Preparation is a crucial step in the process. It involves conditioning the mother mollusk to ensure it is in the right physiological state for surgery. This may include manipulating water temperature, controlling spawning, or reducing activity levels to make the mollusk more suitable for the procedure. Techniques such as lowering water temperature, inducing spawning, or temporarily depriving the mollusk of oxygen are commonly used to prepare it for the insertion of the nucleus. Once the mollusk is ready, small pieces of mantle tissue are cut and prepared to be placed alongside the nucleus. These pieces serve as the foundation for the pearl sac and play a key role in the formation of the nacre layer. The size and shape of these pieces are carefully adjusted to fit the nucleus perfectly. There are several methods for inserting the nucleus, each with its own advantages. The surface patch method, the rolling pusher method, and the film-first method are among the most commonly used. Each technique requires precision and skill, and the quality of the resulting pearls can vary depending on the method employed. Some techniques produce higher-quality pearls with fewer imperfections, while Others may result in irregular shapes or lower retention rates. After the nucleus is inserted, the mollusk must be given time to recover. This period is essential for ensuring that the mollusk remains healthy and that the nucleus stays in place. During this time, the mollusk is often placed in a controlled environment with reduced activity levels to prevent denucleation. The recovery period typically lasts between 20 and 30 days, depending on the mollusk's condition and the stage of pearl formation. Once the mollusk has recovered, it is moved to a more active cultivation area, where it continues to grow and develop the pearl. The choice of location is critical, as factors like water depth, temperature, and food availability significantly impact the growth and quality of the pearl. Ideal conditions include stable temperatures, clean water, and a rich supply of nutrients. The final step is harvesting, which occurs once the pearl has reached the desired size and quality. Harvesting is usually done during the winter months when the mollusk’s activity slows down, allowing for a more detailed and even nacre layer. The pearl is then extracted from the shell, completing the long and intricate process of pearl farming.

Embedding Cassettes

Embedding cassettes are processes used to embed material powders or other bulk structures to provide performance support or chemical protection. It can enhance the quality of the treatment of microorganisms or cells and avoid them be cutting trim. Embedding method is commonly used as immobilized devices for microorganisms, animal and plant cells.

Yingmed offers a wide selection of Embedding Cassettes with round or square hole.
