Piglets should pay attention to iron

Iron deficiency anemia prevails in newborn piglets. The pig's body stores about 40 to 50 milligrams of iron at birth, while the normal growing piglet needs about 10 milligrams of iron per day. The piglet feels iron deficiency within a few days of birth. The piglet needs 200 mg of iron from birth to start eating, and piglets can only get 1 mg from breast milk every day. Even if iron supplementation is done to the sow, the iron content in the milk cannot be increased, and it takes about 20 days for the piglet to absorb iron directly from the feed. Obviously, newborn piglets must be supplemented with iron, otherwise by the age of 10 days there will be anorexia due to iron deficiency, pale skin, rough hair, growth stagnation and so on. The iron supplementation of newborn piglets is usually 2 to 3 days after the piglet is born. Muscle or subcutaneous injection of iron preparations, such as injection of dextran iron or blood serum 1 to 2 ml (50 to 150 mg iron per ml), can also be 2.5 grams of ferrous sulfate was dissolved in 1000 ml of hot water, filtered, and placed in a bottle. When the piglet licked the milk, the solution was dropped on the sow's teat so that the piglet sucked. Usually two times a day, 5 to 10 ml each time.
