"With this model, we can simulate what happens when forces are applied to the bone and predict how it will deform," explained Zissett. "If the deformation exceeds safe limits, the bone may break. Therefore, we can calculate the maximum load a bone can withstand." In a study conducted in collaboration with a medical physicist from the University of Schleswig-Holstein, the team tested an osteoporosis drug on 44 patients over two years. By analyzing changes in bone structure before and after treatment, they observed an average increase in bone strength of 28%.
