Add vitamin E and carotene
Practical experience has shown that adding a proper amount of carotene and vitamin E to the diet of female rabbits can significantly improve their reproductive performance. The recommended approach is to start from the third day after the kits are weaned. For each kilogram of body weight, provide 40 mg of vitamin E and 80 mg of carotene daily. When the female rabbit is in estrus, reduce the dosage by half and continue feeding for about 20 days. This method helps enhance fertility and increase the chances of successful breeding.
Slap method
After mating, gently tapping the female rabbit’s hindquarters can help increase litter size. This technique works because the sudden contraction of the muscles in the area causes the uterus to shrink slightly, allowing the semen to be deposited deeper in the vagina. This reduces the chance of semen leakage and increases the likelihood of sperm and egg meeting, thereby improving the chances of conception.
Compounding method
Following the first mating, it's beneficial to mate the female rabbit again with the same male rabbit every 5–6 hours. This repeated mating process enhances the fertility rate of the female rabbit and increases the number of offspring per litter. It ensures that more eggs are fertilized, leading to better breeding results.
By combining these methods—adding vitamins, using the slap technique, and employing the compounding mating strategy—rabbit breeders can effectively boost reproduction rates and achieve higher productivity in their breeding programs. These techniques have been tested over time and are widely used by experienced rabbit farmers to optimize breeding outcomes.
