Henan University Research found that survivin in colon cancer is an inhibitor of apoptosis

Release date: 2006-09-21

Henan University research found that: survivin in colon cancer is an inhibitor of apoptosis according to the Chinese Medicine News Henan News recently, Henan University First Hospital General Surgery Wang Guihong Master in a study completed in a study found that colon cancer tissue survival Survivin is the strongest inhibitor of apoptosis discovered so far by inhibiting apoptosis and promoting cell proliferation. This finding has important guiding significance for the clinical treatment of colon cancer.
Colon cancer is one of the common malignant tumors of the digestive system, and its incidence rate is 20% to 35% in digestive system tumors, and the incidence rate has increased in recent years. Studies have shown that the rate of colon cancer metastasis and recurrence is high in relation to Survivin in tissues.
To investigate the relationship between Survivin and colon cancer, Wang Guihong and other researchers used immunohistochemistry to treat 46 cases (28 males, 18 females, mean age 59 years) with tumor tissue specimens and 46 colon cancers. The surrounding tissues were subjected to a control study: the specimens were treated by dilution culture, polyclonal antibody and immunohistochemical staining, and the expression of Survivin was observed under electron microscope. Results: They found that in 46 specimens of cancer tissues, there were 28 cases of Survivin expression, the expression rate was 60.8%, of which 9 cases were strongly expressed, 16 cases were positive, 13 cases were weakly expressed; 46 cases were adjacent tissues. There was no expression of Survivin in the middle, and there was a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01). At the same time, they also found that the expression of Survivin is not related to the age, sex and tumor differentiation of colon cancer patients, but closely related to the metastasis of colon cancer: in 26 cases of metastatic colon cancer, 20 cases of Survivin expression, suggesting Survivin expression can promote the occurrence, development and metastasis of colon cancer.
The researchers believe that Survivin is a new member of the apoptosis inhibitory protein (IAP) family, which is expressed in many tumors in the human body and is the strongest inhibitor of apoptosis found so far: not only It inhibits apoptosis and promotes cell proliferation. The above results indicate that survivin plays an important role in the occurrence, development and metastasis of colon cancer. It may be an oncogene and a potentially valuable tumor marker. This important discovery not only has a guiding significance for the prognosis of patients with colon cancer and the choice of treatment options, but also opens up new ideas for the genetic diagnosis and treatment of tumors.
