Lush green plants in forest

Germany's Shanwei (Figure)

Iris is a perennial herb that typically grows between 30 to 50 cm in height. Its leaves are clustered at the base, shaped like swords, and the stems rise above them, bearing raceme inflorescences. The flowers come in a variety of colors including white, yellow, and light blue. The outer petals, known as falls, are oblong with a distinct fold on the outside, and they feature brown veins along the petal stalks. The inner petals, or standards, are inverted oval-shaped and arch upright. The styles are divided into three petal-like branches that spread outward and often curve backward. When cut and placed in a vase, the flowers open gradually, offering an extended period of beauty for viewing. Additionally, the rhizomes of the iris can be used to enhance fragrance, making it a popular choice for both ornamental and aromatic purposes. This plant thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun, adding a touch of elegance to gardens and floral arrangements alike. Whether grown in a garden or used in bouquets, the iris is a versatile and visually striking flower.
