Storage of fertilizers in winter requires "three preventions"

Winter is the off-season for fertilizer application, but most farmers have the habit of using winter slack to store fertilizer. The storage of chemical fertilizers in winter must be strengthened, otherwise it will not only cause fertilizer loss, but even cause major accidents.

Anti-volatile loss

Ammonium bicarbonate is an unstable compound that easily decomposes into ammonia, carbon dioxide and water by itself, causing nitrogen loss. The higher the temperature, the faster the decomposition, so it must be sealed tightly during storage. Nitrogen fertilizers and superphosphate are strictly prohibited to be stacked with lime, plant ash, calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizers, etc., to prevent the loss of nitrogen fertilizers and reduce the fertilizer efficiency of phosphate fertilizers.

Prevent moisture absorption

Most solid fertilizers are hygroscopic, and some even agglomerate and deteriorate after being damp. For example, ammonium bicarbonate is easy to absorb moisture and causes ammonia volatilization loss; potassium chloride is hygroscopic and tends to form agglomerates when exposed to moisture; ammonium nitrate is prone to agglomeration and deliquescence when it absorbs moisture. Therefore, it must be placed in a dry, cool, and ventilated place, and bricks, wooden boards or other things should be used to prevent moisture and waterproof during storage. The height of the fertilizer pile should generally not exceed 2 meters, and the time should not be too long to prevent agglomeration and increase the difficulty of application.

Anti-corrosion poisoning

Chemical fertilizers are generally corrosive, especially those with strong acidity and alkalinity are more corrosive. These fertilizers are currently used in storage. The gas they emit has a pungent odor, which is toxic to the human body, and long-term direct contact should be avoided. Never mix toxic chemical fertilizers with food, feed, agricultural and sideline products and other substances to prevent human and animal poisoning.
